We're a local division of the USPSA (United States Practical Shooting Association). Practical shooting measures the ability to shoot rapidly and accurately with a full-power handgun (defined as 9mm/.38 Special or larger). The three basic principles are Speed, Power, and Accuracy.
Our matches are official USPSA Level I matches and are run according to USPSA's rule book, which emphasizes safety, consistency, and efficiency.
We shoot competitive (and fun!) matches monthly, March through October, at the Putnam County Gun Club in Eleanor, WV, inside of Eleanor Park (formerly Putnam County Park). Most matches have 4-5 stages and can be shot with standard equipment that most of us own (see below). Registration begins at 10:00 a.m. for all matches. Please check the match schedule, and come join us!
Multigun matches are also held at various intervals throughout the season. For more information, click here.
Because this is an action shooting sport, safety is our first priority. We enforce USPSA's safety rules. At matches we operate with a "Cold Range" in all areas involving the match. All guns are unloaded and holstered or cased, and no handling of guns except at Safety Areas or under the direction and strict supervision of our Range Officers, in accordance with the USPSA Rule Book (and good old "common sense"!).
The safety rules are summarized here, and you can read the full version in the official USPSA rule book.
We encourage new shooters to consider our matches. If you're new to USPSA action shooting, come watch a match or two, and give us a try when you're ready. We'll help you acclimate to the dynamic shooting environment, and we encourage you to go slowly at first. There are a variety of things you'll need to know - please read the new shooter and safety pages before coming to the match.
